Bespoke by Kendra is the creative studio of mixed-media artist and sculptor Kendra L. Brown.
Influenced by her South Louisiana upbringing, Kendra creates bold, highly symbolic work that explores the beauty, turmoil, resilience, and complexity of the human experience.
Growing up, Kendra was surrounded by gorgeous women who carried themselves like models and equally handsome men who wore their masculinity with pride. Flamboyant style and outward confidence were part of the culture. Yet she learned early that what we present to the world does not always reveal what we carry inside.
That contrast—the space between appearance and truth—continues to inform her work today.
In the words of Nina Simone, “An artist's duty, as far as I'm concerned, is to reflect the times.”
Kendra believes that deeply. Whether addressing the personal or the cultural, she creates work intended to affect her audience both emotionally and intellectually—and to linger in the mind long after the viewing experience has ended.
Her work is rooted in a simple belief:
"The experiences we endure become the pieces that make us whole."
Every material is chosen intentionally— not only for its visual beauty, but for the story it tells.
Working across sculpture, mixed-media canvas, collage, textiles, wood, metal, paper, and found materials, Kendra uses texture and symbolism to tell stories.
Her approach is rooted in the quilt making tradition she was introduced to as a young woman. Drawn to collage, Kendra finds meaning in bringing together materials, shapes, and textures that might not ordinarily exist beside one another, creating order, harmony, and meaning from their differences. Like the experiences that shape a life, individual pieces, each carrying their own character and history, come together to create something larger and more meaningful.
Kendra creates art to provoke thought, reflection, and conversation. Her work asks the viewer not simply to look, but to look deeper at identity, culture, pain, beauty, legacy, and the truths we recognize in one another and ourselves.
